Diving is a safe sport, but accidents can happen. This certification course is designed to develop the knowledge and necessary skills for an individual to effectively perform diver rescues and assist and administer necessary first aid. During the course, you will learn to identify the prevention and causes of diving accidents, including stress and psychological factors (like the panic syndrome in self and others), physical conditioning, equipment issues, and surface drowning syndrome.  You will also learn critical diving lifesaving skills such as self-rescue, diver assists, surface and underwater rescues, types of transports, in-water artificial respiration, boat and shore exit techniques, and diver first aid. Furthermore, the course covers hyperbaric injuries and management, including information collection and access to hyperbaric chambers, as well as accident management procedures like access to emergency transport/assistance, accident reporting, and liability and related legal considerations.

Executing a successful rescue requires you to be in total control of your own equipment and buoyancy. We teach this course using the DIR (Doing It Right) philosophy and premium Backplate & Wing systems. By streamlining your profile, you reduce self-induced stress, making you a more effective rescuer. You will practice identifying and assisting a properly equipped skin or scuba diver on the surface who is simulating breathing difficulties, tiredness, a leg cramp, or early panic symptoms. You will also learn to locate and bring an unconscious scuba diver to the surface from approximately 6 metres / 20 feet, and transport the unconscious diver 50 metres / 150 feet to shore or boat while simulating in-water rescue breathing. Furthermore, all your course dives will be conducted using Nitrox 32% gas at no additional charge, ensuring safer physiological profiles and longer bottom times.
