Go With the Flow: SSI Waves, Tides & Currents Course

Diving in moving water can be some of the most fun you’ll have underwater—drift dives, shore dives in surf, or exploring reefs where the current brings in the big marine life. But it’s a different kind of dive, and it takes the right skills and awareness to do it safely and enjoyably. That’s what the SSI Waves, Tides & Currents Course is all about.

At XR Explorers, we teach you how to handle dynamic conditions without stress. You’ll learn how to read the water, understand tidal changes, and anticipate how currents will affect your dive. We’ll cover how to plan drift dives, how to time your entries and exits in surf, and how to stay with your team when the current’s moving.

We focus on keeping things simple and safe—using surface lines, deploying SMBs, and making smooth ascents and descents in current. You’ll practice shore entries and exits when there’s surge, and how to use the environment to your advantage rather than fighting it.

By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to dive in more places, with better control and confidence. Whether you want to explore fast-moving drifts or make shore dives in tougher conditions, this course opens up a whole new world of diving opportunities.

- Duration: 1-2 days (Depends on water conditions)
- Maximum Depth: Depends on your certification level
- Academic Sessions: 1 theory session
- Open Water Dives: 2 dives in current or surge conditions

Prerequisites

- Must hold an Open Water Diver (or higher) certification
- Minimum age: 12 years
- Good buoyancy and finning technique recommended to make the most of it
