At some point, every diver drops something—or gets asked to find something someone else lost. The SSI Search & Recovery Course gives you the skills to locate and recover lost objects underwater, from small dive lights to heavy anchors.
At XR Explorers, we teach search and recovery as a real-world diving skill. You’ll learn how to set up and run effective search patterns, even when visibility is low. You’ll practice navigating search grids, handling reels and lines without tangling yourself or your team, and using lift bags to bring heavier objects safely to the surface. All while keeping your buoyancy and trim on point, so you stay in control of the dive—not the other way around.
This course is also a great way to develop your team diving skills. Success in search and recovery depends on good communication, clear roles, and solid planning. We cover everything from planning the dive, securing the object, and surfacing safely with a lift bag, to ensuring your team works together smoothly.
By the end of this course, you’ll be the diver people turn to when something goes missing. You’ll have the skills and confidence to find and recover items without stirring up a silt storm or burning through your gas. Whether you’re helping out on a project dive or recovering a buddy’s dropped camera, this course makes you the go-to diver for the job.

- Must hold an Open Water Diver (or higher) certification
